Yunnan is a province with distinct travel areas, so start by choosing the part you want to explore. A Kunming–Dali–Lijiang direction, a higher-elevation extension and a southern Yunnan journey are not interchangeable day trips. Adding a distant area changes the transport plan and the number of hotel moves.
Use the published six-day route to understand one available planning direction. List what matters most—old towns, landscapes, time outdoors or a slower pace—then compare that list with the actual product days. A six-day label does not mean every well-known Yunnan destination fits.
| Choice | Planning purpose | Decision to make |
|---|---|---|
| Kunming | Arrival and the published Stone Forest day | Keeping the same base avoids moving bags immediately after arrival. |
| Dali | Ancient town and the Erhai / Xizhou direction | A lake visit plus onward transfer is a mixed day, not a full unhurried lake day. |
| Lijiang | Final base and the route’s departure end | Check hotel vehicle access and the flight or train before adding an extra town. |
A useful reference is the existing Kunming–Dali–Lijiang six-day direction. Day 1 is arrival in Kunming; day 2 keeps Kunming as the overnight base for the Stone Forest excursion. This avoids changing hotels immediately after arrival.
Day 3 moves to Dali and its ancient town. Day 4 combines the Erhai and Xizhou area with the onward move to Lijiang, so it is a mixed sightseeing and transfer day rather than an unrestricted day around the lake.
Day 5 considers Jade Dragon Snow Mountain or the village alternative already described in the product. Make that choice around current operating conditions and the needs of your group. Day 6 uses Lijiang as the departure end of the route, with any old-town time dependent on the actual departure.
This is a planning explanation of the published direction, not a new package or a promise that all activities operate on your date. It leaves out southern Yunnan and an additional high-elevation extension. Adding either requires more time or removing part of the existing route.
If your proposed route includes a substantial elevation change, identify it before booking rather than discovering it in the daily itinerary. Discuss lower-effort alternatives and avoid committing every day to strenuous activity. Travelers with health concerns should seek individual medical advice before choosing a higher-elevation extension.
Weather-sensitive outdoor visits need flexibility. Keep an alternative in the same general area instead of relying on an extra long transfer when conditions change. This guide does not guarantee access, snow conditions or a particular seasonal landscape.
Before a hotel-change day, ask each property where a car may stop and how bags reach the room. Pack a small day bag and confirm where the main luggage stays during visits before check-in. Do not presume a vehicle can reach the door of an old-town inn.
In the six-day direction, adding another overnight destination means removing an existing visit or adding days. For example, keeping the Stone Forest day and the Dali-to-Lijiang sequence leaves no spare full day for a distant southern extension. If you want a higher-elevation extension, ask for a revised route with its own overnight and transport plan rather than attaching it to the departure morning.
Is six days enough? It can support a selected route, but the answer depends on your flights, transfers and chosen stops. It is not enough to treat the whole province as one compact destination.
Should I add another town? First identify the night you would spend there and the activity you would remove. If neither is clear, keep the original route.
Is the six-day route a guaranteed shared departure? No. It is presented as a suggested private custom route; shared arrangements need separate confirmation for your dates.
