Compare seasons for Kashgar, Ili and Kanas

Start with one region

Xinjiang is a regional journey, not a city break with nearby day trips. Start with the experience you want: a Kashgar-centered southern route, an Ili-focused northern route, or the Kanas area. Mark arrival and departure gateways before considering a loop. Different gateways can change the practicality of the whole plan.

Kashgar suits travelers drawn to old-city streets, local culture and a southern Xinjiang journey. Ili suits a landscape-led trip with time between stops. Kanas is a separate northern option where the season is central to the experience. These are choices, not three modules to squeeze into one short holiday.

Use the published routes as separate outlines

Option A — Use the nine-day Kashgar loop as the starting point for a southern journey. Read its daily route in order, including overnight locations, before adding an extra excursion. A place appearing close on a national map is not necessarily a practical detour.

Option B — Compare the eight-day Ili loop if the northern landscape route matches your dates. Keep its transfer days visible in your calendar instead of counting every stop as a separate full day of sightseeing.

Option C — Compare the eight-day Kanas loop and its published seasonal variants. Read the variant that matches your intended season, rather than combining highlights from different versions.

For any option, the planning sequence is arrival and settling in, the selected route’s day-by-day stages, then departure with an appropriate buffer. The linked product pages provide the actual daily outlines; this comparison does not add an attraction, departure or inclusion to them.

For a concrete northern example, the published Ili outline starts with arrival in Urumqi (day 1), then moves to Sayram Lake (day 2) and through Guozigou to Yining (day 3). Day 4 considers the seasonal Yizhao Road and Xiata before Zhaosu; day 5 moves through Kurdening to Nalati. Day 6 stays with Nalati, day 7 returns toward Urumqi with road alternatives, and day 8 is departure. Seasonal road sections are conditional, not guaranteed shortcuts. This sequence illustrates why an eight-day loop already needs its own transfer days before considering Kashgar or Kanas.

Let the season change the route

The published Kanas route has summer, autumn and winter versions. A winter enquiry should start from the winter day-by-day plan, not from a summer plan with its photos changed. Compare the overnight locations, access assumptions and included visits line by line before choosing.

The Kashgar standard and autumn versions are also separate references. Autumn highlights are not an addition automatically included in the standard route. For Ili, seasonal road alternatives must stay visible in the enquiry: ask which overnight base works if a road-dependent stage changes. No opening date or seasonal scenery is guaranteed here.

  1. Mark the fixed booking or departure first.
  2. Write the pickup or meeting point in full, then check the journey to it.
  3. Keep the optional visit removable until transport and admission are confirmed.

Transfers, accommodation and documents

Check each overnight location against the next day’s route. A hotel chosen only for its price can add unnecessary backtracking. Confirm luggage handling, meal stops and the expected shape of long travel days with the arranger; this guide does not quote fixed driving times.

Give the arranger your travel-document type and proposed route when checking current entry and local access requirements. Do not infer eligibility from someone else’s itinerary or from a visa exemption applying elsewhere. Use the relevant official authority for a definitive answer. For rail segments, confirm the station and use a booking channel that supports your document.

Common Xinjiang itinerary questions

Can I see northern and southern Xinjiang in eight days? The published eight-day options focus on a selected northern route. Adding the south changes the journey; ask for a separately assessed itinerary rather than treating it as a free extension.

Which route should a first-time visitor choose? Start with your interests, season and usable days. Being a first-time visitor does not make one route universally right.

Can I book a shared departure? Ask about availability for your dates and group size. The existence of a route page is not confirmation that a departure is operating.

Compare the three journeys

Open the Xinjiang comparison page, then read the matching daily itinerary and seasonal version. Send your dates, group size, gateway cities, preferred scenery, travel-document type and language request through a private enquiry. Do not submit document numbers or scans just to ask an initial planning question.
